Dear friends and family,
Today we wanted to share a message from one of our friends, Dionna Sanchez. We met her recently after attending a webinar she was assisting with for San Antonio Marriage Initiative. We got to know her heart and passion for families, and immediately hit it off – her message starts below:
Relationship Pandemic.
Recently I heard someone say that we are in a “relationship pandemic”. It was such a great way to describe what has been going on in our lives this year.
So many people are feeling the stressors on their emotions and mental health, because for most of us, we have been “siloed” at home for a great deal more time than we are used to. And being “siloed” is never good for anyone.
We were made for community. Created to help, support, and walk through life with one another.
It reminds me of when I was a young stepmom. In a brand-new marriage, as a full-time custodial stepmom. I felt “siloed”. No one knew what I was feeling or going through. I felt very much alone.
There are so many “silo’s” out there right now. Moms, dads, husbands, and wives. People who feel alone. People who feel like no one else knows what it’s like to walk in their shoes.
They wonder, “Am I doing it right”?
They doubt themselves, and they are under a great deal of stress.
They are in a “relationship pandemic”. Not just one due to a virus, but one also due to personal circumstances.
I think the one thing this pandemic has taught me, is that when you are strong and have a healthy family – your family will grow stronger, and healthier despite the stressors thrown at it from something unforeseen like a pandemic. Why? Because you have people there to walk the thing out with you. They are there to encourage you when you are down, lift your head up, and help you reach out for help.
But, if your family is unhealthy… it is in danger of growing and reaching further into unhealthy habits and characteristics. Being “siloed” together with people you don’t feel understand you, can place you further out on the ledge when those stressors come.
It is more important now, than ever, to find community. To talk TO and engage WITH, others who can support, encourage, and mentor you.
So that you don’t feel alone. Desperate. Misunderstood. Or overwhelmed.
Instead, you can see hope. Feel love. And be encouraged.
You may not be doing “it” right. I may not be doing “it” right. But we can walk through all those “it’s” together.
And be better, stronger, and wiser because of it.
“Relationship” pandemic or not.
I need you and you need me. So let’s be there for each other… More than ever.

Making the family WHOLE again,
