Lauren, a product of a blended family, joins us for a candid discussion about divorce and blending families from a child’s perspective. From her own experience and her relationship research, she gives us insight into how a child’s identity, sense of belonging, and security can be disrupted. She shares how she had to search for who she was and where she fit in a family that no longer seemed to have room for her.
 
Because it is the holiday season, Lauren also talks about how to walk through the holiday season, making room for all your kids, regardless of their family of origin. Awareness of the expectations placed on your kids consciously and subconsciously can raise their stress level. As they navigate the landscape of homes of parents, stepparents, grandparents and extended family, Lauren encourages us to take time to hear the hearts of our children this holiday season.

Lauren Reitsema, Vice President of Strategy and Communications at the Center for Relationship Education. Lauren’s interest in relationship skills began when her parents divorced after 20 years of marriage. Seeking to understand better patterns for her own future legacy, she earned a Bachelor in Communication from TCU. Her vocational speaking experience spans over 15 years, teaching a variety of relationship skills to youth, adults and corporate teams. Lauren recognizes relationships are one of life’s most important assets and energizes a room to prioritize the people in their lives. She and her husband, Josh, recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary and love adventures with their two children. All Colorado natives, they are avid skiers, outdoor enthusiasts and Broncos’ fans.
